Geothermal Technology… the way of the future
Late 2016 we were in the early stages of planning to build our dream home and one of the ideas brought to the table was installing geothermal technology. We looked at each other, both thinking ‘what the hell is geothermal technology?’
After doing a bit of research we contacted Nick from AusGeothermal and from our very first meeting he made us feel very comfortable. His explanation of what this technology is all about convinced us that this was the way of the future and if we were to have a cost efficient home, geothermal coupled with solar was the way to go for us.
18 months on we moved into out new home. It was mid-summer and we were getting days well into the high 30’s and even 40’s. Our air conditioning, run with the AusGeothermal heat transfer units gave no indication of the outside temperature and performed outstandingly.
Come winter, some say the coldest in 20 years in our area, we had weeks on end that the minimum temperature was below zero, the lowest was -5.9°C. Thanks to our in-slab heating, again powered by AusGeothermal’s installation our home was at a constant 21°C without even needing to use the air conditioning.
Other bonuses were that not only does the system run our domestic hot water service, we had a drying closet, similar to what you see in the ski fields, added to our laundry which works wonderfully. We also chose to install a bore rather than use the closed loop system and now we have the benefit of ample free water to irrigate our lawns and gardens.
As I was working full time during the build, Debbie managed the whole site and Nick was one of her best allies, always available to give advice and make the whole process as stress free as possible, and 12 months after completion he’s still only a phone call away to answer any questions we may have.
We would not hesitate recommending AusGeothermal to anyone thinking of building a new home. Just give them a call and within minutes you’ll feel comfortable and at ease with the knowledge that there’s no hard sell and the advice given will help you make up your own mind as to whether geothermal technology is for you or not.
